How Cost Splitting Works Under Indian Transport Norms
eZway is designed around genuine community cost sharing. Here is the mathematical and legal framework behind our benchmark pricing:
1. Direct Fuel Cost Offset
Solo commuting in an average petrol sedan (15 km/L) over 60 km daily costs ~₹10,800 per month just in fuel. When 2 co-workers join the journey, each passenger chips in ₹3,600, reducing the vehicle owner's out-of-pocket fuel bill by ₹7,200.
2. Zero Platform Markup
Unlike commercial ride aggregators that take up to 30% of trip earnings, eZway facilitates pure peer-to-peer expense sharing with zero broker cuts on ride contributions.
3. Measurable Carbon Reduction
Every passenger sharing your vehicle is one less vehicle contributing to gridlock and particulate emissions on congested urban corridors like NH 16, NH 65, and metro Ring Roads.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does this fuel cost calculator calculate carpool savings?↓
The calculator takes your round-trip commute distance, multiplied by working days per month, divided by your vehicle's fuel efficiency, to determine total fuel consumed. It then applies prevailing Indian fuel prices and divides that sum across the total vehicle occupants (host + co-riders), showing your direct out-of-pocket savings.
Are toll fees included in this calculation?↓
Highway toll charges vary significantly by expressway (e.g. NH 16, NH 65, Outer Ring Roads). While this calculator models direct fuel savings, eZway's in-app cost benchmark also allows hosts to equitably distribute Fastag tolls across co-riders.
Is it legal in India to collect fuel contributions from co-passengers?↓
Yes. Non-commercial cost-sharing where private vehicle owners merely split the direct fuel and toll expenses of a journey is permitted under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988 (Section 66). Hosts are recovering expenses, not generating commercial profit.
How much CO₂ does carpooling actually eliminate?↓
Burning 1 liter of petrol emits approximately 2.31 kg of carbon dioxide, while 1 liter of diesel emits 2.68 kg of CO₂. When 2 or 3 commuters share a single car instead of driving separate vehicles, hundreds of kilograms of greenhouse gases are eliminated each month.
